This position is temporary and has a Not-to-Exceed date. However, an extension of the appointment may be possible without further competition. The appointment may also end early due to lack of work or funds. This position is located on a Forest Service unit in Region 4 on the Bridger-Teton National Forest in Jackson WY. The incumbent provides a variety of administrative and clerical activities in support of the supervisor function.

TEMPORARY APPOINTMENT: Some positions will have varying work schedules. Some positions may have irregular and protracted hours of work. Tours of duty include full-time or less than full-time and will involve working weekends or irregular work hours. Occasional travel is permitted for District meetings.

The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career- Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply.

Receives telephone and personal callers; screening those matters which can be handled personally. Handles all routine and administrative matters; and refers others to supervisor or supervisors subordinates, as appropriate, where supervisor is engaged with more urgent matters.
Receives, reads, and routes incoming mail to supervisor. Selects items which requires the personal attention of the supervisor and anticipates the need for and attaches material, such as previous correspondence and reports.
Composes letters and memoranda on matters which require an understanding of the activities, practices, and procedures of the office, and of the interrelationships among its staff units and presents in final form for the signature or approval of the supervisor.
Reviews draft or final form correspondence prepared in staff units for signature or approval of the supervisor for appropriateness of form, clarity of expression, completeness, and agreement with the preference of the supervisor. Recommends revisions to make the correspondence meet the established requirements. Reviews correspondence prepared by other units to determine that clearance has been obtained from interested offices, groups, or staff units before routing to supervisor. When appropriate, attaches notes to call attention to items of particular importance or to point out items known to be at variance with supervisors policy or with established procedures. Signs routing and nontechnical correspondence.
Attends staff meetings and conferences, providing secretarial support. Some travel is required on an-as-needed basis.
Make arrangements for meetings, including time, space, and equipment. Assembles background material for supervisor.

GS-6: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level; six months (9 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level education if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (for example Business Administration); and/or combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Examples of specialized experience are : establishing and maintaining official program files from initial receipt of materials to closeout and disposition of the files; completing support work in the area of human resources or correspondence control; assisting with scheduling and monitoring of procurement transactions for the full range of standard items and services to meet the organization's needs.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
